Hyacinth originated from the Mediterranean coast, Asia Minor and the Netherlands, has been widely cultivated around the world. The variety of hyacinth is very rich. There are more than 2000 kinds of hyacinth recorded. The main authentic varieties are Dutch species and Roman species.

Morphological characteristics
