Winter is the most important period of management for both ground and potted roses. Whether the maintenance is in place or not is directly related to the normal growth and flowering of the next year. The following aspects should be emphasized.

Fine trim

At the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, when the ambient temperature drops below 5 ℃, the dead branches, disease and insect branches, Cross branches, overlapping branches, etc. shall be cut first, and then the strong, medium and weak methods shall be adopted according to the growth of the plant.

For the weak plants which are not strong enough, strong cutting should be used. 2 /3 of the whole plant can be cut, only 3 to 4 main branches of 1 to 3 years old can be kept, and about 20 cm can be left at the base, so that the nutrient supply is concentrated, which is suitable for potted large flower rose.

For the plants with normal growth, moderate pruning and cutting 1 /2 of the main branches are suitable for the frequent flower varieties which are easy to germinate branches. For the small and medium-sized plants with normal growth and development, weak cutting should be given to prevent excessive consumption of nutrients.

When pruning, it is required that the blade be sharp and smooth, so as not to tear the upper blade. Generally, the blade should be cut from 1 cm to 1.2 cm above the bud point, and the outer buds should be well preserved, which can promote the ventilation, light transmission and good plant shape of the plant. The cut branches and ground fallen leaves should be collected and burned together, and the plants should be sprayed with a mixture of sulfur and stone, which can greatly reduce the growth of diseases and insect pests in the next year.

Winter Rose

Burying fertilizer

For the plants planted in the field, after pruning, the circular groove can be excavated around the root system of the plants. Depending on the size of the plants, 250g to 300g of cake fertilizer can be buried in each plant, and 500g of chicken, duck dung or fertilizer pond mud can also be used to meet the needs of growth and flowering in the next year.

After pruning, the potted plant can be detached from the flowerpot, part of the old soil can be shaken off, the rotten and dead roots can be cut off, and the fresh and fertile loose culture soil can be used for planting. At the same time, 50g to 100g of retting rotten cake fertilizer can be buried in the middle and lower part of the flowerpot, which can meet the needs of growth and flowering in the second year.

Pay attention to cold prevention.

In the north of China, it is cold in winter. It is not suitable to prune the rose in the open field in winter, so as to prevent it from being damaged by air drying. It can be pruned before germination in the next spring.

Winter Rose

Potted plants can be planted in the leeward and sunny place together with pots, with plastic arch shed built outside to keep the pot soil from freezing. If the pot soil freezes for a long time, it will affect the growth and flowering of the next year. Pay attention to the plants placed indoors. The temperature in the shed should not be higher than 4 ℃ to 5 ℃, so that they can be fully dormant.

Strong branch cutting

For some varieties that are easy to take root, the thick annual branch can be cut off to grow 10 cm to 12 cm ear segment, and the lower incision is 0.2 cm below the node. The cutting bed is made of Huangxin soil. The depth of the cutting into the soil is 4 /5, only one bud at the end is kept outside the soil. After the water is poured through, the arch shed is set up, and the plastic film is covered tightly. When the weather is too cold, the grass curtain is covered to prevent cold. Keep the seedbed free of ice. In the spring of next year, the lower incision can be healed and rooted.
