The main root of Panax quinquefolium is round or spindle shaped, with light yellow or yellow white surface. The surface texture is very delicate, full and firm. Its cut surface is also very clean, showing a clear chrysanthemum texture. Rhizome short, stem cylindrical, about 25 cm long, with longitudinal stripes.
There are 5 compound leaves palmately, usually 3 to 4, whorled at the top of stem, Petiole grows about 5 to 7 cm, leaflet is membranous, shape is wide ovate or inverted ovate, grows about 4 to 9 cm, width is about 2.5 to 5 cm, apex of leaf is sharp, edge has rough serration, base is cuneate.
The total pedicel of Panax quinquefolium is drawn out from the middle of the petiole at the end of the stem. It is an umbel with many flowers and 5 petals, green and white.
