The Western Rhododendron hybridum is the most beautiful one among the rhododendrons. It has a variety of colors and graceful flowers. It is the most prolific Rhododendron hybridum. Propagation methods include cutting, grafting, layering, sowing and other methods.

Cuttage Propagation

Most of the propagation by cuttage started between May and June. For cutting, it is better to select tender stem which is close to mature, and the length is about 12-15cm. Cut off the leaves at the bottom of the branch, leave only the tender leaves at the top, then insert the branch into the selected fertile basin soil, the depth is about half of the branch. After planting, we need to keep the soil moisture, about two months can take root.

Strip propagation

Strip propagation is usually carried out in April and may in spring. Select the mature branches that have been two or three years, peel the bark 1.5cm wide ring with a knife at the place about 20cm from the top, then wrap and press with a plastic film, and pay attention to keep the soil moist during the growth period. About four to five months will be able to grow new roots, roots can be cut down directly on the basin after planting

Grafting propagation

Grafting should be carried out in the rainy season. Generally, two-year-old robust Rhododendron hybridum should be selected as the rootstock, and then the young branches of vigorous Rhododendron hybridum should be used as the scion. Trim the scion branches, keep the top leaves, and cut the bottom into wedges. Cut a 3cm long cut on the rootstock, then insert the scion branch, bind the joint tightly, keep moist during the period, and the new branch will survive in about two months.

Beautiful Rhododendron

Seed propagation

The temperature is 22-24 ℃ in April of spring. Before sowing, the soil should be disinfected. The seeds of Rhododendron hybridum occidentalis are relatively small. After sowing, they need not be covered with soil as long as they are pressed lightly. About half a month or so can germinate, but the growth rate of seedlings is relatively slow, when the new seedlings grow two leaves, they can be transplanted. Weak acid sandy soil, which is soft, fertile and good for drainage, can be used as the substrate for transplantation. During the growth of seedlings, attention should be paid to maintain the water supply of soil layer. It should be noted that it takes four to five years for the Rhododendron hybridum to bloom after sowing and breeding. If you want to make the Rhododendron hybridum bloom as soon as possible, it's better to use other methods for reproduction
