The so-called seedling pruning is to shape the upside down golden clock before it is formed. The main goal is to cultivate a beautiful plant shape during maintenance, and different pruning methods should be determined according to the growth characteristics of different varieties.
This method is suitable for varieties with small branch opening angle (branch lifting), such as "purple golden hammer". When the seedlings are higher than 20 cm, they should be topped to promote the germination of new branches. Because the lateral branches are generally symmetrical, the two symmetrical branches above should be kept during pruning, and the branches and leaves below should be wiped off completely. When the lateral branch grows to about 10 cm, it needs to be topped. When the new branch grows, it is good to let it grow. Pay attention to cutting the inward and downward growing lateral branches at any time.
After pruning, 8 to 10 flowering branches were reserved in pot plants with diameter of 15cm to 18cm.
This method is suitable for varieties with large opening angle (flat branches) and strong growth, such as "white calyx" and "maiden skirt". Do not top when the plant type is small, cut all branches and leaves below 10cm when the plant grows to 20cm. After the growth of lateral branches, in order to avoid overlapping branches, layered pruning can be used. Leave a symmetrical branch in each layer, remove a pair of symmetrical branches, and then leave another layer of symmetrical branches, and repeat.
It is suitable for the varieties with creeping branches and weak growth, and the varieties with large flowers and double petals. Trim it to natural shape according to its shape. When the small seedlings grow to 30-40 cm, the top of the trunk should be removed, the adjacent overlapping branches should be removed, and the long branches should be cut short to promote branches. At any time, the inward growing branches shall be cut off to promote the graceful plant type.
Under the natural environment of North China, the flowering period of inverted golden bell is from April to July. Therefore, pruning should be stopped in late March in spring to ensure flowering in mid April. Because the flower of upside down Golden Bell blooms well at the top, the flower branch will continue to stretch, when the flower branch grows to a certain length, it should be topped, and the new branch can continue to bloom.
When flowering, the twigs and leaves in the center of the plant should be cut off at any time to avoid nutrient consumption and facilitate ventilation and light transmission.
When the temperature rises to 30 ℃ in July, the plant will enter a semi dormancy state. The leaves will gradually become weak. At this time, they need to be pruned again to reduce nutrient consumption, which is conducive to a safe summer. Cut off all the longer branches, leaving only the backbone branches. Remove all the old leaves and put them in the shade. If there are buds sprouting at this time, they should also be removed in time. New branches will grow in September, when the plant type will be more compact.
