The purpose of pruning before flower is to make the flower bud born on the strong segment. At the same time, the abnormal, twisted, thin and tender segments can be removed to promote the flower bud differentiation at the top of the segments. At the beginning of October, the bud appeared in the shape of milky white to reddish papilla. At this time, the flat and tender stem should be removed in time to promote the birth of flower buds. After the flower bud is born, it should be thinned according to the nutrition condition, generally one node keeps one flower bud. If more than two buds are born at the stem end, they should be kept large and small to concentrate nutrients and avoid falling buds and flowers. If the plant grows vigorously but the flower buds are less, it is not necessary to open the buds, but the young stem nodes need to be removed.
The purpose of post flower pruning is to trim plant type and promote branching. There is a period of dormancy in the middle of March, which can be pruned and reshaped in combination with basin and soil replacement. It is usually pruned layer by layer. The lowest stem node can be slightly longer, followed by the middle, and the upper part can be cut short. If it has not been pruned for many years and the single node of the stem is extended for a long time, it should be cut short. After cutting short, it can produce more than two nodes, and the plant type is more plump. It can reduce the burden of rootstock, delay the senescence of plant, and reduce the falling of flowers and buds.
It is not allowed to cut from the middle of the segment when cutting the segment. It should be cut from the base of the segment. At the same time, it is necessary to keep a 1-2 mm long handle to prevent damage to the growth point. The stalk will shrink and fall off soon after being cut off, and the new stem nodes will not leave traces of pruning. Every year, stick to pruning will make the stem nodes distributed in a fan shape, and the plant type will become more and more plump.
