In early spring, when all the frost has passed, it can be pruned. In some cold places, it also needs to be pruned in summer.
Cut off all the frostbitten branches, reduce 2-3 branches on each main branch, and keep one bud. In summer, leave 5-6 leaves for coring. In addition, we should also cut off those branches which are crossed with the normal reserved branches.
After planting, leave 3-4 buds at the base of the main stem of fig seedling, and then cut them. In that year, select three main branches growing in different directions, and pay attention to the angle separation. In addition, remember to control the length of the main branch to about 40 cm. In summer, for those branches that are overgrown, it is necessary to remove the heart. In winter, for the branches that bear fruit, it is necessary to remove the weak and retain the strong. In addition, as for the extension branches of these three main branches, it is better to retract them every year to ensure the proper crown size.
In the first year after planting, it is allowed to grow naturally. In winter, it is selected to leave about 10 circles alternately from the bottom to the top for pruning. After the branches grow longer, they are bound to be horizontal. Remember to dredge those branches that are too dense and overlapped, and control the height of the main trunk extension branch growing upward at 1-1.2cm. After the third year of fruiting, the branches of transverse fruiting have formed a whole ring around the trunk from the bottom to the top, which is pruned every year to update and keep the beautiful tree shape.
To master the pruning of figs, not only to master these methods, but also to understand the habits of figs, so that pruning will be handy.
