Before grafting, according to the actual needs, timely take root shape. The roots of small-scale potted plants are raised properly after 8-10 months of planting; the roots of medium-sized potted plants are raised around December; the roots of large-scale potted plants are raised after 2-3 years of planting, and the roots are raised after the root block is formed.
Grafting time is around Qingming or when autumn buds sprout.
The rootstock and scion should choose the branch of the year, but the scion should be relatively mature.
Cut off the top of the rootstock with a high-temperature sterilized blade, then cut a hole about 1cm down along the axis vertically, cut the big end of the scion into a V-shape, and insert it into the rootstock. Wrap the joint with plastic film and spray water.
After grafting, plant should be placed in a well ventilated and bright place to avoid strong light. Remove the film once a day for air exchange, but do not touch the interface with your hands directly. It can be untied in about 45 days.
After sprouting, we should pay attention to replenishing water to prevent the buds from drying due to water shortage.
When the grafted plant grows into a chicken claw branch, all the leaves should be removed, and each branch should keep 2-3 bars, so that all the twigs can grow new leaves, making the tree more plump.
After the new buds grow out, the leaves should be cut in every section. For the buds with large density and irregular shape, some of them should be wiped out to avoid overgrowth of branches and leaves and competition for nutrients. At the same time, the direction and position of collocation are also used to promote growth.
