The cutting of Rhododendron should be carried out at the end of spring and the beginning of summer, but the time of germination of new branches is different with different varieties. Generally, the West cuckoo is in the late May, the spring cuckoo is in the early June, and the East cuckoo and the summer cuckoo are in the mid June. However, in the plum rain season in the south of the Yangtze River, the air is mild and humid, which is more conducive to the cuttings' healing and rooting.
First of all, choose the healthy mother plant.
Select the luxuriant branches and leaves growing upward and cut them from the root. Remove the lower leaves and keep only the top 2-3 leaves.
After pruning, tie up the leaves and soak in warm water for 30 minutes.
Make a few small holes in the prepared basin soil.
Insert the soaked branches into the hole and compact them with fingers.
Pour enough water and put it in a cool place. If the humidity is low, wrap it with plastic film on the flowerpot. After about three weeks, the cuttings will adapt to the new environment, and can be transferred to a place with bright light and properly bask in the sun.
After cutting 50 ~ 60 natural roots, the surface plastic film can be removed after rooting to ensure air circulation. Water once in the morning and once in the evening. In another month, the root system is plump and can be planted in separate pots. It is better to plant in a pot with a diameter of 10cm. Put it in a warm sunny place.
