The common rootstock of Bougainvillea is the same kind of purple flowers. It is required to grow well without diseases and pests. Other flowers as rootstock, survival will be difficult, and the same species grafting is more conducive to its growth.
The scion should choose the healthy and strong branches, and use the new branches that were born in the same year, not the old branches and the long branches. Leave leaves and 2-3 buds on branches. The cuttings should not be placed for a long time. It can be preserved in clear water for a short time, but not more than two days.
Cut the tree stem of the rootstock, cut the cut flat, and cut it lengthwise in the middle, leaving a notch about 2-3cm deep. Remove the leaves at the lower part of the scion, and then cut the bottom into wedges with a length of about 3cm. Insert the base of the scion into the notch of the Rootstock to make the surface of the two wounds fit together. A part of the scion wound should be exposed, which is more conducive to healing.
Use adhesive tape to fasten the joint. The wound must be completely covered to avoid infection of bacteria and disease. After wrapping, it can be covered with plastic bags, which can effectively moisturize. It can also be wrapped in newspaper to avoid direct sunlight. Generally two weeks later can survive, a month later to take off the tape, normal maintenance.
