There are three ways to propagate Ipomoea lobata: sowing propagation, branch propagation and Cuttage Propagation. However, because of the difficulty in obtaining the seed of the Ipomoea lobata, it is seldom to use the method of sowing to propagate, and it is commonly used to propagate by cutting.
Cutting propagation can be divided into top branch cutting and stem cutting. The Cuttage Propagation of Ipomoea lobata can be carried out throughout the year, and the best way is to carry out the Cuttage Propagation indoors after flowering. Cut the annual branches about 10-15cm, keep 3-4 leaves, remove the base pairs of leaflets, insert them into the cuttings made of river sand or vermiculite, keep a high humidity and a relatively stable temperature, cover the cuttings with glass or plastic film, control the temperature at 20 ℃ and maintain a high air humidity, and root about 3-4 weeks.
After rooting and survival, we should strengthen the maintenance and management of Ipomoea lobata, and promote new branches. After two months of survival, we should start to remove the heart, and promote more branches to benefit the flowers. After 1-2 months, it can be potted. The seedlings do not bloom in the first year, and after two or three years, orange red flowers emerge from the axils of the leaves at the tips of the pendulous branches.
