Most of the crab claws and orchids in Huayou's family are grafted. In summer, they usually use less water and stop fattening for curing. So, what we need to do in early autumn is to let it slow down from dormancy.
1. Apply thin liquid fertilizer.
In summer, there is almost no external nutrition supply, so the stems and leaves will become thinner, in order to lay a good foundation for flowering. You can first give Christmas Cactus a thin slow-release fertilizer, preferably fruit and plant fermentation, about half a month.
2. Less spraying of P and K fertilizer
Now the Christmas Cactus is in the recovery period, if spray a lot of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote the flower, it is not conducive to its healthy growth.
3. Control the amount of water
Although it's autumn, you can't water it carelessly. Crab claw orchid root system is more delicate now, if a lot of water is very easy to rot root, the best is the basin of soil dry and then water.
4. Gradually give light to
In summer, the Christmas Cactus of Huayou is usually kept in a cool and ventilated place to avoid direct sunlight. Now you can put the Christmas Cactus on the bright window or balcony, let it receive the light in the morning and evening, and gradually increase the light time in the later period.
After the temperature drops, it's a good time to cut again. Crab claw orchid is no exception. If you want to harvest more Christmas Cactus, you can start cutting!
1. From the mother plant of Christmas Cactus, cut several hard and robust leaves. The best cutting leaves are more than two knots. Such leaves have a high survival rate and grow faster.
2. Insert the leaves to be cutted into the comb, then soak the end to be inserted into the soil into the rooting water, soak it for about 30 minutes, and then dry it in a ventilated place.
3. The soil used for cutting must be soft and breathable. You can mix coconut bran and charcoal, add some sawdust, water it and grasp it well, and the soil will be moist.
4. Insert the dried Christmas Cactus leaves into the soil, and the cutting depth can ensure that the leaves do not fall.
5. After cutting, put it in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance. Do not water it often. Spray a little water when the soil is dry. The survival rate of this cuttage is close to 100%!
1. The scion to be grafted should be more robust and darker, and the lower end of the scion should be cut into a duck mouth.
2. If you choose cactus as rootstock, you must choose the one with thick leaves, and the one with winter survival is preferred. Then cut the top of cactus leaves about 1cm.
3. Prepare a sharp knife, and then cut a cross-section of cactus with a depth of 0.5-1cm.
4. Put the beak of the cut scion down and insert it into the cactus incision. Then put it in a cool and ventilated place for half a month, and then put it in a sunny place for maintenance
5. For the sake of safety, you can use toothpick or small clip to fix scion and rootstock together after inserting.
6. After a period of careful maintenance, the grafted Christmas Cactus will blossom!
Flower tip: because of the difference of temperature in different places, friends in high temperature areas can postpone the above operation for about half a month according to the actual situation
