Please find me a bright spot with plenty of indirect sunlight. A north or east-facing windowsill is perfect, or a few feet back from a south or west window. I adore warmth, just like my native Southeast Asian habitat. Keep me in a room between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C), and I'll be very content. Please shield me from cold drafts from air conditioners or open windows in winter, as I am quite sensitive to the cold.
This is the most important part of our relationship. My motto is: "I prefer to be slightly dry rather than too wet." Before you reach for that watering can, do the simple finger test. Plunge your finger about an inch into my soil. If it feels dry, then it's time for a drink. If it still feels cool and moist, please wait. Overwatering will drown my roots and make me very sick. When you do water, do so thoroughly until you see water escape from my pot's drainage holes, and always empty the saucer underneath afterward.
I am not a heavy feeder, which is good news for your busy schedule. During my main growing season (spring and summer), a light meal once a month is plenty. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half its recommended strength is perfect. In autumn and winter, when my growth slows down, you can stop feeding me entirely. I need that rest period.
I naturally grow into a pleasant, shrubby shape, but I welcome an occasional trim. After my fragrant blooming period, you can gently prune me to maintain my form. This encourages me to become bushier. As for repotting, I am in no rush. You only need to consider moving me to a slightly larger pot every two to three years, at most, in the spring. I actually enjoy being slightly root-bound.
My tiny, yellow blooms may be modest, but their scent is my gift to you. The signature perfume is strongest in the evenings and during warmer months. To encourage this, just ensure I get enough light and am not overwatered. Stress from too much water or too little light will prevent me from sharing my delightful fragrance. Thank you for choosing me. With this simple care, I promise to thrive and bring you joy for years to come.
