A north-facing window is also an excellent choice, providing consistently soft light throughout the day. If your only option is a south or west window, please place us a few feet back from the glass or use a sheer curtain to diffuse the intense afternoon sunlight. This way, we can produce all the energy we need to produce our vibrant blooms for you.
We thrive in the same comfortable environment that you do. Our ideal temperature range is between 65°F and 75°F (18°C - 24°C). It is crucial to keep us away from areas with dramatic temperature fluctuations. Please avoid placing us directly in front of heating vents, radiators, or air conditioning units. These sources of hot or cold blasts create a stressful environment, causing our buds to drop and our leaves to wilt and yellow. Furthermore, we are plants that adore humidity. Kitchens and bathrooms often provide this naturally moist air, which keeps our foliage perky and helps prevent pesky spider mites. If your home is dry, grouping us with other plants can create a beneficial microclimate of shared humidity.
While we appreciate fresh, circulating air, we have a strong aversion to sudden, cold drafts. A constant stream of cold air from a frequently opened door or a leaky window is a significant source of stress. It can shock our systems, leading to leaf drop and stunted growth. Similarly, the dry, hot air from heating ducts is just as damaging. Our preferred spot is in a room with stable, still air or with very gentle, natural air circulation that isn't directed solely at us. Our leaves will droop noticeably when we are thirsty, providing a clear signal that we need water. Placing us in a location where you frequently pass by, such as on a living room side table or a kitchen counter, allows you to easily monitor our well-being. You can quickly notice our cues and respond accordingly, ensuring we never become severely dehydrated.
