The leaves of Taxus chinensis are strip-shaped and grow spirally. They are arranged in two rows at the base, straight or sickle, with raised midvein and two light gray stomatal bands below.
Torreya grandis has 6 to 7 heads, about 6 mm in diameter, 3 mm in total stem, and ovoid flowers.
The male flowers of Taxus chinensis are round, with pedicels, and bracts arranged in imbrication at the base. The cones are solitary in the axils of the leaves.
