Red maple and chicken claw maple are very beautiful foliage plants, and red maple is a variety of chicken claw maple, but although red maple is a variety, it is very similar to chicken claw maple. No wonder many people think that they are a kind of plant. Today, I will take you to make a specific distinction between the two plants and see what differences they have.

Difference 1: branches

The skin of red maple is rough, firm and reddish brown; the skin of chicken claw maple is delicate, flexible and green. This is also the most obvious difference between us. From the branches, we can directly determine what its name is

Difference 2: leaf shape

The leaves of red maple are composed of 5 to 9 pieces, and the cracks between each piece are relatively deep, some of them can even reach full crack; while the leaves of Acer henryi are also composed of 5 to 9 pieces, but the most common one is 7 pieces, the depth of cracks between each part is relatively small, and the biggest crack is 1 /3 of the leaves. Moreover, although this is also a difference between them, it is difficult to distinguish them without careful observation.

Difference 3: leaf color

The leaves of red maple are red from the beginning of spring, and will be red till autumn, and will wither in winter. The leaves of another plant, Acer henryi, are green in spring, just like spring in summer, will turn red until autumn, and will wither in winter.

Difference 4: flowering and fruiting

The flowering period of red maple is from April to may, and the fruit period is October, while the flowering period of another plant I have mentioned is may, and the fruit period is September.

In fact, there is a little difference, but not too obvious. The overall tree type of Acer henryi is more loose than that of red maple, but the difference is not significant
