The leaves of Acorus calamus are grayish green, in the shape of broad sword, about 40-60cm in length and 1.5-3cm in width. The top is acuminate, the base is sheath shaped, the color is light, and the midvein is obvious. The leaves of Acorus calamus are green, in sword shape, much wider than the former, about 90-100cm long, about 1-2cm wide, wider at the base, folded in half.
The color of Acorus flavescens is yellow. The outer perianth lobes are oval or obovate, with black stripes, about 7 cm long and 4.5-5 cm wide. The inner perianth lobes are oblanceolate, smaller, about 2.7 cm. The flowering period is in May every year. The color of Acorus calamus is yellow green, the inflorescence is narrow cone-shaped cylindrical, and the perianth is much smaller than the former, about 2.5mm. The flowering period is from June to September.
