Paeonia lactiflora is widely distributed in China, mainly concentrated in the north of the Yangtze River Basin. Because it has a vernalization stage, it needs to be under 0 ℃ for 40 days. In the north, it is easier to provide vernalization conditions and better to raise. If the south is well preserved, it can blossom.
1. Soil: peony is generally planted in sandy soil. This kind of soil has good drainage performance and will not generate water, leading to its rotten roots. If it is planted in the ground, it should be planted in a higher place, not in a low-lying place, otherwise the rainfall is easy to flood the roots.
2. Light: Paeonia lactiflora belongs to the plant with long sunshine. Insufficient light will cause it not to bloom. It needs to be put in the sunny place, with the daily light not less than 8 hours. But young seedlings should not be exposed to the sun, otherwise it will lead to plant death.
3. Watering: The Peony itself adapts to grow in a slightly dry environment. Usually, watering should not be too frequent. Wait until the soil is dry before watering. In rainy season, it should be put indoors to avoid water accumulation in basin soil caused by rain.
4. Fertilization: proper fertilization can make peony grow more luxuriant. When planting, a base fertilizer should be applied to provide nutrients for its growth. After flowering, phosphate fertilizer should be applied once a week or two. In autumn, apply potassium fertilizer to help it survive the winter safely.
