Can be carried out all year round, but in spring and autumn the best, the survival rate of cutting in summer is relatively low
When cutting the cuttings, the inflorescence should be cut first, and the healthy and short internode branches should be selected. The rooting speed of top bud and twig cuttings is much faster than that of semi hardwood cuttings. If the moisture protection is not done in time, the branches are easy to dehydrate.
Standard cuttings include top bud cuttings and twigs cuttings. When top bud cuttings are selected, branches with top buds, 3 nodes and 5-9cm in length should be selected. The first pair of leaves growing under the branches can be cut off, or some leaves can be cut off to reduce water evaporation.
When selecting young branches for cuttings, leaves can be kept as much as possible and pruned properly. Seedlings can be raised in a seedling basin.
Prepare the cutting container and soil, pour the soil through with water, put the treated cuttings into the soil, pay attention to the moisture of the soil.
It takes 14-21 days for cutting roots to grow. After cutting roots, it can be moved to a 7.5cm-diameter round basin for seedling cultivation, and then it can be planted in a 12.5cm-diameter or 20cm-diameter flowerpot after the head of roots is out. When the plant grows up, it can become a spherical five color plum after several times of heart picking and pruning.
