Gardenia jasminoides Ellis has strict requirements on soil, and the pH of soil must be between 5-6. However, the soil in the north is alkaline or neutral. In this kind of soil, iron salt is difficult to dissolve in water and cannot be absorbed by plants, resulting in iron deficiency of plants. Iron deficiency can block the green synthesis of leaves, hinder photosynthesis and cause plant death. Therefore, suitable soil is very important. The growth period is 10-15 days. Pouring black alum water once can also meet the iron requirement of Gardenia.
Gardenia jasminoides Ellis like a humid environment, usually keep the pot soil moist, but also increase the air humidity. The north is dry in spring and windy in the northwest. It has strong sunlight in summer and fast evaporation of water. It is cold and dry in winter. Therefore, in spring and summer, water should be sprayed on the leaves and around the ground to increase air humidity. Water less in winter, often spray the branches and leaves to ensure the leaves are clean.
Gardenia jasminoides Ellis likes light, but is afraid of strong light. If the light is strong, the leaves turn yellow and white. Especially in summer, it should be placed on a covered balcony or a place with scattered light for maintenance. In the morning and evening, it can be moved to the sun to receive the light, so as to prevent the leaves from turning yellow.
Big leaf gardenia and small potted varieties are different, the cold resistance is not good, winter should be moved to indoor maintenance. Usually in mid October, it is moved indoors and placed on the balcony with good ventilation to the sun, and the room temperature is maintained at 10 ~ 12 ℃. Move to the outdoor in late April of the next year.
The maintenance of flowers is not difficult. If the above four points are achieved, Gardenia jasminoides Ellis can not only set up a home in the north, but also have green leaves and flowers, and full of fragrance.
